The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
11 October 2009 @ 03:01 pm
A year ago today, I went to an awesome house party thrown by the lovely Amanda and her equally lovely roommate, Katie. It was called Party (with Jerry!)

According to Amanda's FB invite:

The date of this party has been specifically and meticulously picked for the attendance of Jerry. For those of you who were at the May BBQ, you may remember Jerry. Some of you (Paul?) flat-out fell in love with him. Some of you were amazed by his scooter (not a euphemism, he drives a scooter, also a euphemism), his crazy stories, or his quippy nature. Some of you may have missed him altogether. IT'S NOT TOO LATE. Jerry has given his word as a scholar and a gentleman that he will be at this party... SO YOU SHOULD BE THERE TOO!

There will be non-Jerry related entertainment in the form of drinks and other people. Bring a beverage or snack to share! Jerry will be providing prizes for those he deems worthy and/or likes the best.

Details:
WHAT: Party (With Jerry)
WHO: Katie, Amanda, everyone they know, and Jerry!
WHEN: Saturday, Oct 11, 8:00 until whenever.
WHERE: Chez Awesome, XXXX Colfax Ave S. Mpls.
WHY: Holy crap, why not?

Amanda writes the best invites. :)

I don't know that I ever wrote out the story of how Jerry and I "started". I've told this story a hundred times over, I'm sure. It's one of the best stories I know, and the best part is, it's true!

.....

I made a few comments on the invite page, as well as in my own journal about not being able to resist Jerry, that I would win all of the prizes, etc...I didn't even really know Jerry at that point. We met back in 2006 when Amanda was back for a week from Japan. She had a little get together at Psycho Suzi's in NE. I mentioned Jerry in the entry I wrote about the night. Our paths crossed again shortly after CVG08 at yet another Amanda function. Jerry, Brandy and JD all scooted to the party, and I did, too! The real turning point was the party in October. :)

I went to the party with the intention of drinking one of Jerry's gin drinks, holding a beer for the rest of the night, and excusing myself home at an early hour. At the time, I lived less than a block away from Amanda. Amanda knew that I loved gin, and told me that Jerry and I would be awesome friends because of it. She was so right!

Jerry showed up at the party and he looked good. I mean really good. ;) He made me one of his gin fizz drinks, and I hated it. :P It grossed me out that it was made with egg whites...srsly. I dumped it out when he wasn't looking, and was like "Mmm, tasty business!" when he was. After that drink, I grabbed a beer, but the party didn't end there.

We ended up crashing the neighbor's party with [info]anney and drinking their crappy keg beer. We drank some of the beer that I brought over from my place. We drank the sake that Jerry brought in celebration of his new job. Before drinking the sake, we of course had to venture to my place to get sake cups. :) We returned to the party and talked with a "Japanese" accent (think O HARRO!) for about an hour and a half on Amanda's bed while totes tipsy. We drank Amanda's AMAZING apple sangria and ate the boozy fruit. At some point, I'm sure we drank more beer. We drank the first bottle of the Lambic that Jerry brought and then decided to sit outside so we could better hear each other.

It was super cold, so he gave me his sweatshirt. After a few minutes of sitting outside being cold and drunk, we decided to go to my place (less than a block away) and play Mario 3 on my Wii. We got SO MAD at Mario for "not being able to jump" properly. We agreed that it was Mario who was drunk, not us. :P

I woke up the next morning in my bed, laying next to Jerry. The only piece of clothing missing from our original costumes from the previous night was Jerry's shirt. It was like something out of a movie, where the heroine wakes up, her eyes flutter open and she gets her bearings. She's thinking to herself that she had a great time last night, but she's happy to be home. She remembers who she was with the night before, and when she rolls over in bed, there he is!

I shyly said good morning. He folded his arms up behind his head and said it back. We made tentative plans for hanging out again soon. :) He gave me a ride to work. So much for that "one drink and then hold a beer all night so I can get to work on time" plan. Whoops!

.....

Today marks one year since that party. A lot of things have happened in both of our lives. Friends have come and gone. SPW/SPS had its first successful season. The Happy Merry Christmakwanzaaka took place. I bought my 2009 scooter. CVG09 came and went. He put his house up on the market. I turned 27, he turned 28. My 2009 scooter officially died for the last time.

So many other wonderful things in there, too. Every day is a wonderful thing, my friends. Be good to each other. <3

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
27 December 2008 @ 04:32 pm
Yesterday, I hit up Target fairly early on. Their promises of sale prices were not impressive. I got a few tasty treats, as well as a few little gift items for friends. I spent less than $15. All in all, a successful trip to Target.

After that, I met up with Anney and her smokin' hot co-worker. We hit Subway up for lunch and got STRAIGHT HATED on by the girl who works there. She has a thing for Anney, and I think she was jealous of me and/or the man friend.

Spent a little time chilling with Anney on her slow day. It was nice to catch up. We have a lot in common, just coming off of abusive/controlling relationships, so we really have a good understanding of the other person's situation. I'm SO GLAD we are over that shit.

I got lucky and caught a 4 directly home with my parcels in tow. Spent an hour or so chilling with some wine and ROCK BAND! Dave and Ann spent Christmas Eve exporting all of the RB 1 songs into RB 2, and also purchased some No Doubt songs! So awesome.

When it was time for me to head out, I called Amanda to see what her ETA to el Herk was. She came and picked my drunk ass up, and we caught up in the car. Scored some free parking behind the Herk, and even saw Anney parking her car. We got a nice booth in the back and my favorite server from back in the day. Angie and Jessica showed up, and good times were had by all. Tasty foods were had by all, too!

Getting steadily drunker, I hit up Saver's with Jessica and Angie. We were on a mission to get Jessica a bathrobe. I was supposed to find something, too, but was too drunk to care. :P Hit up Hi-Lake Liquors in hopes of scoring some cheap wine. They were more expensive than Chicago Lake Liquors, and they smelled like piss. We headed out to CL-Liquors and bought most of their supply of Boone's Farm. LULZ.

Hit up Crystal's to finish my dress for my sister's wedding. The dress is a complete success and is ready for wearing next Friday. OMG, a week from now, my little sister will be married! Eek!

After the dress making was over, Jessica, Angie, Crystal and I finished up the rest of the Boone's Farm and headed out to get more. Drunkenly, Crystal and I decided that a cigarette would be a good idea. Today, I am very much regretting it. I feel like I got hit by a truck. :P NEVER AGAIN, SRSLY.

We ended up with four more bottles of rainbow colored liquor at 7.5% alcohol volume each. We also got a pack of Camel Turkish Gold cigarettes (vomit), a lighter, several Party Pizzas, and a case of the giggles. Jerry B showed up, so I had to invite Amanda. She was already in her PJs. Probably for the best. :P

Our little party of Jessica, Crystal, Angie and myself suddenly included Ryan, Jerry B and Meeeeeguel. Good times were had by all until around 1:30. I spent much of the night lamenting my drunkenness and cigarette infused lungs in Jerry's lap on the couch. I slept for a good chunk of time. :P Crystal's couches rock.

Meeeeeguel gave me a ride home, and all was well with the world until around 7am when I woke up. Every time I am drunk, I WAKE UP when the drunk has worn off. I then have to pee, get a glass of water, and convince myself that it's a good idea to go back to sleep. Bleh.

Got up, dragged my ass to Tiff's place around 10:30. I'm glad she didn't mind sleeping in for a while this morning. We discussed her goings on, as well as our costumes for tonight's festivities.

Spent much of the day with Crystal and Bertine. We hit up the YWCA for Body Flow class, but I spent the time being hung over in the pool, hot tub and sauna. :) After working out and relaxing in the hot tub, we got dressed and hit up Rainbow to procure groceries for tonight and tomorrow. Bertine just dropped me off, and I have about an hour or so before she'll be back to pick me up. I need a nap!

Tonight shall be much fun with the Lebowski B-Day Blowout for Jessica. Tomorrow shall be awesome with lots of South Park and Rock Band. I can't wait! :D

I honestly think I spent more on ME this season than EVERYONE else combined! Luckily, most of the purchases were necessities, so I don't feel TOO badly. :P

I bought two pairs of jeans from NY & CO. They are teh awesome. Anyone who has seen them can vouch for this. Hell, my Wifey loves them so much she friggin' STOLE THEM last Saturday. :P

High up on the list of priorities were black werk pants, as well as some new Old Navy built-in-bra tank tops. I <3 those. I get four tanks for less than most women spend on a single bra. Awesome!

As a splurge, I bought this rockin' pair of high heels. [info]theophania_79 owns them, and I threaten to steal them from her on a weekly basis. Now, I won't have to steal them. I will have my own pair. :P

I'm just wasting a little time before heading our for drinx with the A-Team. I am drinking wine and playing ROCK BAND. Ann and Dave were kind enough to import all of the RB1 songs into RB2, PLUS buy a bunch of No Doubt songs. WOOT! I just played a challenge on my own and ranked #147 OVERALL. If only I had other players with me, we could have scored even better! How About No, Scott? is the best band EVAR.

Ok, see you all on the flip side. I'm off to drink beer, eat greasy food (oof, my ulcer) and catch up with three of the foxiest ladies I know. ;)

I spent the majority of my day in transit. Went to Chang Mai Thai for lunch. Headed downtown to Target and the Westin. Caught the LRT with [info]anney to head to the Mall of America. Walked around the mall for hours and got lots of awesome stuffs. If you're lucky, I'll post a little show of what finds Anney and I found! :)

While at el mall, I spent a little bit of time in Best Buy playing Guitar Hero World Tour. It's a concept very similar to Rock Band, only with the Guitar Hero stamp of approval on it.

For those of us who have never played Guitar Hero, the differences are pretty pronounced. The notes turn into stars at some points, when the "star power" is activated the notes turn blue and glowy, and the bars with the notes always has some kind of distracting design on it. For the most part, it's a good game.

I noticed that there are a few of the same songs from Rock Band that were in GHWT. I thought that was odd. I also noticed that there are some AWESOME songs like Beat It by Michael Jackson. :P

It would be neat for the added songs, but the game needs a little help. When you activate the star power, the crowd starts clapping and singing along. Annoying!

ETA: GH is annoying because the crowd claps and sings along AGAINST the beat.

Too much fun! Everyone who did not come missed out hardcore! I think a big reason some people didn't come is because you're not on Facebook, thus I did not invite you to the event. My bad! Next time, I will cross-post for sure! :)

[info]shewenttoitaly just got back from Amsterdam and had many fabulous stories to share. I am so jealous of her traveling lifestyle. :) Still, it's good to live vicariously through her. ;) I brought her a present--a PEZ dispenser boyfriend! He's a policeman and has dark hair with a square jawline. ;) WOO!

[info]goobermaster showed up with woeful tales of his laptop at home. MAJOR BUMMER, dude! He was slightly healthier than the rest of us, as he rode his bike to the bar. :P

[info]eagon and I played army men at the table. It was a blastie! Some of the guys had flamethrowers, laser pistols, and (of all things) mops. A good time was had by all. Usually I'm not that creative, but I had a good time making up rules and moves as we went along. The one I was most proud of was when the guy with the mop (metal detector) found a fistful of rusty nails and took out a couple of his guys with tetanus. Brilliant! Some key moves made by Chris included a direct hit to the pepper shaker on the table rendering all of my remaining soldiers helpless with a sneezing fit, and spies at the end who killed off my remaining guys and then took cyanide pills to avoid capture. So. Much. Fun!

[info]scorpi084 came after werk and had a tasty looking amaretto sour and a tasty burger. It was good to see her, even if she and Chris didn't stay for the movie at Brit's.

[info]damncutekitty sauntered her saucy self up to the bar after werkings. She had a disappointing Tanqueray Tonic. Bummer!

[info]anney came from the Westin downtown. She's a big deal over there. ;) I had brought her a [really late] birfday present. I'm a good friend like that. :P Her birfday was July 4th, so I'm only a month and a half late. Mini palm reading kit--I can't wait for her to read my palm!

[info]styletax showed up after a grueling extended weekend at GenCon in Indiana, and an even more excruciating day at werk. She looked good and happy but BEAT. I'm glad she made an appearance, though! What a trooper. I had a [really late] birfday present for her, too. Amanda's birfday was the 9th of July. I found a super cute mini gnome for her to travel the globe with. :)

[info]theophania_79 was all sassed up and ready to party! She had a couple of Stoli Razz and sour drinks. Not bad! I can honestly say that we won't be doing 8th Street Grill for 2-4-1 cocktails. We might do $3.50 beers, but no more of their cocktails. Too weak! Actually, [info]goobermaster had some tasty White Russians. I could do those next time.

Karl came and *gasps* drove his car! I can't believe we got Karl sans bike for once! O_o

Chris' friend Matt just moved up here from somewhere near Mankato, MN. He's not used to the big scary city yet. It was good to get him out and experience it, though. You'll only learn if you spend time wandering around!

Sarah, Ryan and I all tried to stop in at Haskell's so we could sneak a bottle into the movie. ;) Unfortunately, they were closed. That's what you get for living downtown. :P

The three of us met up with Crystal, Karl and Tiff at Brit's Pub for a movie on the rooftop green. [info]that_dan (aka Dan) met up with us as the movie was starting. Tiff and Karl left about halfway through the movie. Bummer! :(

Crystal, Ryan, Sarah, Dan and I stayed the entire length of the movie, which only lasted until 11. Good times! We bade Sarah and Dan adieu at Nicollet and Grant. Crystal knows a super secret special way to get home that involves trekking through Loring Park after dark. EEK! Actually, it wasn't too bad. Ryan met up with us at Mortimer's for a nightcap. We ordered a pitcher of Lebatt Blue (Canadian beer, eh?) and were shocked when we got 1.75 pitchers due to the keg needing to be changed. Score!

Of course, this meant that I was a little bit drunker than I had been before. Crystal was kind enough to offer me her couch for the evening--even a ride home in the morning! She's the best! :) Ryan biked home to see Sid, which was prolly for the best. Poor little guy home alone all day! :(

Crystal has the MOST COMFORTABLE COUCH EVER. I slept like a baby. I want to go back and nap again! :P

This morning, I am looking forward to a quick nap, some exercise, and a pretzel with cheese. I don't want to go to work tonight! :P

Saw the Dark Knight. I wasn't impressed. Maybe I need to see it again to fully appreciate it, but I wasn't "OMG BEST MOVIE EVAR" as I was leaving the theatre. The characters were ok...The Joker was probably the best character in the movie, but I still liked Jack Nicholson's Joker better. Eh.

About the only thing on my list that actually got accomplished yesterday was an adventure over to Southdale Mall (somewhat close in proximity to Eden Prairie Center, of Mallrats fame) to return the crappy camera I bought from Ultimate Electronics. I was able to convince them that it was defective, so as to save myself the 15% restocking fee. I couldn't even set the date and time on the thing! WTF?!

I decided on a different model that they actually had in stock--Beautiful, isn't it? The CNet review didn't give it high marks, and I DO have 14 days to return it if I decide it's not really what I want. I'm still contemplating going for a Sony Cyber Shot, as I've had EXTREMELY good luck with those. They are durable as hell and take great shots. We'll see about this one. For the time being, I'm in love--but then, I love almost everything that's green. :)

Today, [info]anney and I are going to hit el Mall. There shall be jeans returned, socks bought, and an IKEA trip. There might even be lunch, depending on when she rolls her lazy bum out of bed. ;) Before all of that happens, of course, there is a rather large stack of mail sitting on my table that I can't put off any longer. Bills to pay, bills to postpone, things to send out...bleh.

Tomorrow, THERE SHALL BE POTSTICKERS.

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
28 March 2008 @ 01:38 pm
Had a wonderful outing with two fantastic ladies last night--[info]theophania_79 and [info]shewenttoitaly and I went to Chino Latino for drinks and tasty supper. Unfortunately, the fantastic supper options during their afternoon happy hour are pretty limited. I had chips with tasty cheese dip, but was feeling the beer pretty intensely. Tiff took her leave of us, so we tried to hit up Figlio for a little variety. They are always SO CROWDED that it’s no fun. We went to the Independent instead.

In my opinion, they have the best 4-7 happy hour in many categories:
-It is restaurant wide, so you’re not crammed into the bar area
-2 for 1 drinks ($5 for TWO Sapphire and Tonics!!)
-AWESOME appetizer specials ($5 for duck dim sum…* drool *)
-Good people watching (last time with Anney and Tax, I was shakin’ mah bootay with our table neighbors)
-Not so loud that you have to shout to each other across the table

As for last night, we got in on the tail end, so we did get one round in at 2 for 1 pricing. THEN, we had $2 PBRs (OMG I <3 PBR…) and split some zucchini fries. I had the WORST gut rot this morning, probably from the fries. Yeach.

I also hit up Ragstock and Heartbreaker whilst about on the town. I got a big bag of clothes for $30 and some C-U-T-E shoes and a pair of undies for $20. I consider yesterday to be an overall success.

Today, went to el doctor. With any luck, I’ll be IUD-ridden in a week! I can’t wait.

Happy Friday, y’all!

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
10 March 2008 @ 11:10 am
First stop was the Independent. We had to use our awesome decoding powers to figure out that the whole appetizer menu was NOT $5—it was only the apps with the RED DOTS. Bummer, but still tasty. Anney (for some strange reason) ate Boston Market before coming out with us. She put both Amanda and I to shame by (later) eating ONE TORTILLA CHIP. Yes. One. WTF.

We got a pretty decent table, and it was next to a ROCKIN’ crowd, mainly rowdy black dudes. At one point, we were extremely interested in what they were talking about, so I wandered over to inquire. I ended up shaking my ass (don’t act like you’re not impressed) and the group got shushed by the uppity wait staff. LAME.

We tried to move downstairs to Figlio, but they were so freakin’ crowded that we decided we wanted to go elsewhere. We ended up back at the Independent for more 2-4-1 drinks. WOO JYNNANTONNYX. This is when Anney’s infamous ONE CHIP came into play. Amanda and I know that we can handle our liquor, but we need a little sustenance (not in liquid form) to keep us going. Anney is apparently a champ when it comes to the booze—either that, or she ate the Boston Marked out of business before she came over.

2nd run of Independent brought much humor. We drunk dialed, drunk texted, lost Anney to some people at the bar, and discussed PLINKO with many other bar patrons. We even managed to bring up the Yodeling Mountain Climber game. SCORE.

When we got sick of the Independent (as drunk people will do), we tried Chino Latino. SO crowded, with a 1 hour wait for three girls to get a table. We headed elsewhere after bouncing around on the mental hospital soft wall.

Five words for the trip to Williams: THE MAC STORE IS SHUT

At Williams, Anney ordered me a Red Bull and vodka. Holy shit is all I can say to that. We sang many awesome 80’s and 90’s hits along with the jukebox, lost Anney AGAIN (this time to some people in the basement), I paid for the bill with someone else’s signature (lulz), and took many cell phone pictures. Hooray for new picture caller IDs. :D

We met back up with Anney downstairs and much eating of popcorn and peanuts ensued. When we left, I brought the popcorn with. IT WAS SO GOOD, GUYS. I even flossed my teeth when I got home!

I don’t 100% remember getting home, but I’m glad someone was sober enough to drive my drunk ass home. Much fun was had by all, and I woke up the next morning at 6:30 with the intense need to pee and drink water. I was still drunk, and I swear I can still taste the gin today.

I can’t wait to find out what happens on our next adventure!
