The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
02 November 2009 @ 02:25 pm
A few moments I will remember and cherish FOREVER:

* Waking up on October 12th, 2008 with Amanda's glass full of sangria next to my bed, and her Guest of Honor in my bed.
* Eating Luce and drinking beer while playing Wario Ware on my Wii and talking till all hours of the morning the very next day.
* Eating Thai food with Jerry back in January and he wore the only sweater he owns.
* Standing next to the upper floor railing during the intermission of Singin' in the Rain at the Ordway with him holding me from behind.
* Lying in bed on Friday before Eric's Halloween party, just having eaten dinner and cuddling while watching The Mitchell and Webb Look. Legs intertwined, holding hands, touching the other person's hair... :)
* Our first Cheap Date Night at the Red Stag.
* One of many meals at Our Kitchen.
* Jerry pushing me and my dead scooter back to safety.
* Drinking jynnan tonnyx fortified with hail while watching Look Around You.
* Fixing my tank top with twine.

* I am craving Thai food like a crazy person. I really want to try the new Roat Osha in Uptown.
* I could really use a 2nd run of room cleaning/organising. Ladies?
* I am in dire need of an upper back/shoulder massage. Maybe even up into my neck.
* I honestly don't think I have ever been happier with my life than I am today, right now, drinking white wine, contemplating my past week and upcoming spring, in this very moment.
* I have the best friends and family in the whole wide world. Anyone who says I don't is a big, fat liar.
* I am on the verge of something really amazing and I can't wait to find out what it is.

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread

I made cupcakes today. I wanted to bring some in to work, because one of the guys gave me a ride home last night. I thought it would be a nice treat. I made half with chocolate chips and half without. With the left over batter, I made a pineapple jell-o cake for partying tonight. WOOT!

On my way to work, it was raining. I covered the cupcakes with two plastic bags, layered over each other in opposing directions, so as not to let the rain in. I walked up to Hennepin, and walked in the ICE COLD water and leaves. I love the little streams that rain makes when it pours its path to the grates. I had to RUN for the bus on Hennepin. I offered a cupcake to the bus driver as a thank you for waiting for me. He declined.

However, when I got off the bus, there was a guy walking around the transit station. Probably mid twenties or early thirties. His eyes got wide and he got a HUGE smile on his face. He asked if I had a cake. I said no, but it WAS a pan of cupcakes. He smiled again and started to walk away. I figured that ANYONE who got THAT excited over a baked goods needed at LEAST one, if not two. :)

I asked if he wanted one, and with a shy smile, he asked if I was sure he could have one. He didn't want to make anyone sad at work that they didn't get one and he did. I told him that if he walked across the street with me to the other side of the transit station that yes, indeed, he COULD have one.

He asked my name as we walked, and he told me his name was Matt. I told him the cupcakes were nothing special--just a cake mix out of a box. He said that if I made them, then they were REALLY special and made with love. I thought that was cute. He was super excited to find out that they were still warm. He had a bite and just about died of happy on the spot.

As he walked away, he finished the cupcake and then stopped at a garbage can to drop the paper in. He literally licked the last bits of it off the paper and shouted back to me that it was SO GOOD!

The rest of his way to the corner, he danced and spun circles on the sidewalk, jumped up and down off the bricks by the library, and laughed. I'm pretty sure he was one of the homeless guys that hangs out in Uptown, but I could be wrong. He looked pretty hungry, but he was happy for a hungry person. I don't know if it was the cupcake or the rain...maybe it was both.

I couldn't help it when I watched him--I started laughing, too. I walked up the four blocks to the next stop, just so I could hang out in the rain, too. When the bus driver pulled up, she hit a low tree that overhangs the stop and SOAKED me. She felt bad, but I just laughed and said "Thanks, that was great!" Not sarcastic at all, either. I really thought it was great. I only wish it hadn't been 35 degrees outside. I miss summer rain.

I don't like Mr. Noodle. He's CREEPY.

I like it that Elmo's fish is named Dorothy. :)

I don't like the new Grover voice. Doesn't sound anything like Grover. :(

I like Rosita and the Spanish/English bits.

I wonder where they find babies that are fine being kissed by Muppets without screaming their fool heads off.

They made a wooden Elmo puppet for the telling of Pinocchio. OMG SO CUTE!

The Honkers were on today!

I love the Two Headed Monster! He had a cold today, so he was blowing his nose.

Today's show was brought to you by the letter U, the number 20, and lots of noses. :)

I have to say that I rather enjoy the raised keyboarding experience that I'm currently getting at the Library. I am enjoying it so much that I might just go home and hook up my old desktop so I can use a real keyboard with 10-key options. :) Anyone need any data entered?

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
14 July 2008 @ 11:33 am
Thursday:

I arrived at CVG2008 around 6pm. Tiff and Crystal had said to get there about that early so as to secure seating for the opening ceremonies. Totally do-able. I pulled up in the parking lot wearing a white sweatshirt with my green reflecty vest over it. (read, looked like a total dork) Scanning the parking lot, I see this dude with a HUGE sword and really elaborate [anime?] costume on. I think to myself, "Yep, I'm officially at CON."

This was entirely amusing to me, because just two years prior, I had been out on a test drive in a mini-cooper with Rob, Steve and the ex. We drove past CON and LAUGHED our asses off. I remember taking a picture of a group with a lady who had a dragon on her shoulder (a little puppet thing) and titling it "crazy con people". I wonder where that picture is these days...

Back to arriving at CVG, I asked dressed up anime guy if I could park my scooter next to his bad ass motorcycle. He said sure. I just didn't want to look harder for parking, nor did I want to take up a whole spot with my scooter. That's just rude. Two bikes in one spot is better than one. Anime guy and I end up going to registration together, as well as the ATM together. That's the last I would see of him till Saturday night. No biggie.

After opening ceremonies (which was hilarious, including the fact that the video didn't work...DAMN YOU, AUSTIN POWERS!) Tiff and Crystal took me back to el hotel to unload my stuff and get ready for the night. Crystal came through with a garden party hat, we made a name tag out of our hotel key card envelope (it had roses on it) and called it a win. I was transformed into Sarah Sunderson of the Stepford Garden Society. Too much fun! It was a really simple costume, but got lots of compliments on it. :)

I spent a good portion of Thursday night chilling with Aaron. He's good people.

Friday:

Got up and puttered around the hotel room for a couple of hours. Did some getting ready with Tiff. Also made a beer and store for last minute costume pieces run with Aaron. Tiff and I went out on the floor as MN Zissou Team Members Pants and Tiff. Nico was nowhere to be found, and the suit was kinda itchy. I ditched it for my Renaissance outfit.

I can't BELIEVE how many people complimented my costume. To me, the fest garb is totally run of the mill. Nothing is hand made or really true to period, in my opinion. The corset is from Victoria's Secret for crying out loud! Everyone loved it, though. As the weekend wore on, I even got used to the fact that people thought my scar was makeup, and not a real scar. I was irritated at first, but then realised that I can't get away from it, especially with the costume choices I made. Oh well.

Saturday:

Got up and got ready to GO. I had planned on rocking my Tank Girl costume ALL DAY on Saturday. Tiff decided to rock her Six costume all day, too. Good call! Crystal helped me get into proper Tank Girl form, and she changed into her signature costume to take CVG by storm!

Our group had a really great time at Masquerade, even if I was a little sleepy. CON is tiring, yo! :P

Many beers were imbibed, many new friends were made, and a jolly good time was had by all. I spent an inordinate amount of time playing with glow sticks in Connie's Space Lounge. I ended up with quite a few of them by the time the night was over.

I ended up meeting back up with that motorcycle anime character guy (the one in the blonde wig) again in the Space Lounge. We ended up playing blacklight mini golf, but I was so toasted by that time (2am?) that I had to go back to the hotel and sleep.

Sunday:

I was hungover. Big time. Like, so BADLY hung over that I didn't want to move. I didn't want to think. I really wasn't ABLE to do much of either activity. UGH. Met up with Dan (the motorcycle guy) and his friend Kent before they left for the day. Turns out, Dan was deployed in Iraq with the National Guard and worked as a medic in a burn unit. He knows a lot about Keloid scarring. This is too cool, because I have a nasty scar that needs to go away...and he can help. :)

After saying goodbye to Dan and Kent, Ryan and I went to what we thought was Theatre Nippon for some Chobits. Turned out, we were in Theatre Rex for some Hero action. That is a fantastic movie. Visually stunning and brilliant. I can't wait to see it again. When you watch that movie when you are hungover as FUCK, it makes things worse. I can't even describe to you how awful the camera angles and movements made me feel. UGH. Still, a great movie.

After CVG, Ryan needed a ride home. No biggie, he came with me on the scooter. We had an adventurous ride home through the construction and closures of all the roads. We hung at his place for a good two hours just talking, BS-ing, and having a good time. That guy is great. Ryan = winnar from CON weekend. Crystal, thanks for introducing us all! :)

After Ryan's place, I decided it was time to fix my hangover. Thanks to the magic of Taco Bell, my hangover went away. I also had a really lovely walk around Lake Calhoun. I needed to do some deep soul searching and deciding of things before I went home to face the demons that haunted me there.

For those of you who weren't in the loop, I'll clue you in. This is the night that I broke up with Damian for good. I can't handle him controlling and emotionally/psychologically abusing me any longer. He's got to go. I have less than two months left in my apartment here, and then he'll be gone completely. I don't have contact with him other than when he chooses to come see me at work. And that has to STOP. Thank you to all who have been here for me during the first few make up/break up situations. I really needed your help and support. Now, I'm glad to say that I'm back to my own life and doing great. :)

If you're still with me this far and haven't decided to un-friend me for my lack of lj-cut action, I thank you. Hopefully this will sway all of you into coming to CVG2009. :P

Oh man. Went to see MIA at the Myth in Maplewood last night with [info]theophania_79. The opening DJ was actually pretty good. The second DJ, one Egyptian Lover, wasn't as good. He kept saying that he was going to "bring it back to 1983". Since it was an all ages show, NOBODY THERE EXCEPT ME AND TIFF WAS EVEN BORN IN 1983!!!

Oh well. Still a good show. I haven't been dancing in AGES, and I actually had a good time. Thanks to Tiff, who really knows how to work the angles, we had FANTASTIC seats. Wow.

MIA didn't go on till 9:30. When I'm all famous, I'll NEVER make my fans wait 3.5 hours from the door opening to see me. Screw opening acts. Just go on!

She called all of the ladies up on stage to dance for a song. Tiff convinced me to go up there, so I did! It was really fun, except I got stuck dancing right behind a rather...portly young lady who was humping one of the speakers. I wish I had thought to grab Tiff's camera--MIA was about five feet from me most of the time I was up there, and she even walked right next to me at least three times!

I think we still got some good shots. At one point, she came down the aisle right in front of us, so I grabbed the camera and got some up close pictures that were really good.

We had a scary ride home--Tiff was a little tipsy. I hope she's not too pissed at me for giving her a little...direction...while driving. There was a little too much swerving in and out of lanes. I didn't want her van to get messed up, nor did I want us to get pulled over or into an accident. I've never moved the seat over in her van to drive it, but I should have. I thank my lucky stars that we made it home in one piece. I think the Taco Bell helped Tiff along to a speedy recovery. :P

I wish I were still in bed. *yawn*

For my birthday, my sister sent me a copy of The Giving Tree. I love getting mail! I put several children's books on my Amazon Wish List. I've been in the mood for them, and upon reading this book again, I'm glad that I have it! I read it by myself when I opened the package, and was overwhelmed with nostalgia. Damian read it to me before we went to bed, because he wants to work on his English reading skills. I seriously started crying when he was reading...I don't really know why. I just felt very moved by it at that moment.

Sometimes I feel like that tree--even when I feel as though I don't have anything left to give, I still give anyhow, and I'm just as happy as that tree.

That's right, Grandma and Grandpa are in Ireland as we speak, probably riding a tour bus or something. I hope I'm a kewl grandma someday. :)

What is wrong with this picture? It's AUGUST and I'm drinking HOT COCOA. WTF.

I am rather impressed by my "weekend in pictures" segment. I posted all of those entries within about twenty minutes. ROCK. I'm so glad I cut my nails this weekend. I can function again! And, I can type with some semblance of accuracy. YAY!

A big thanks to everyone who checked in to see if I was ok last week. Luckily, we were nowhere near the bridge, and nobody we know was involved. I *never* take that bridge anywhere, so I'm not all that sad to see it go. (I mean that insofar as I don't personally use it, so I don't mind. I am not trying to be insensitive to those injured, killed, or otherwise affected by the bridge.)

Hmm...that's about all I've got.

I got up at a reasonable hour this morning. Damian was pretty much dying by Saturday morning. He hadn't gotten any sleep the night before, so he CRASHED Friday night. He was SO SICK. Poor baby!

I got up, took a shower, and got ready to go to the party. He got up and decided to come with. I was really glad about that.

I made some spicy guac for him when we got to Deb's house. He wanted something spicy to clear out his nose. :P

Damian learned to play cards today. Nuts/squeak are hard games to get a hang of, but he did really well for having never played cards before!

He also decided to take a walk in the rain and got some AMAZING shots of deer and turkeys. So cool! He ended up soaking wet up to his knees. I wasn't impressed by that, since it probably won't help his recovery process.

We spent the rest of the night eating good food and playing lots of cards. Good times!
